V Couloir, Atlantic Peak

Group: with Brennan Metzler
After meeting up with fellow splitboarder and friend Brennan Metlzer, we decided to go for a route on Atlantic Peak. Brennan had been up in the area a couple of days prior on Fletcher and so had a bit of recon on the area. So we met up at the Quandary TH and drove down MuCullough Gulch as far as we could go. On our backs go our packs and up the gulch we go. Bush-wacking our way up we eventually make our way to the head of the gulch and the base of Atlantic and Fletcher Peaks. |
Upon reaching the head of the gulch we noticed some dark clouds coming in fast. We decided that we should wait it out and see if the weather was going to do anything. Meanwhile, with the clouds getting darker, we see and hear people on the summit of Quandary. We joked about how we were glad that it wasn't us up there. After about 30-40 min we decided that the clouds were going to just blow by and decided to go for it. So we loaded up our gear, threw on our crampons and started the climb up the couloir. We figured it would be better just to climb the couloir directly that way we could address the snowpack conditions on the way up.
By the time we reached the top of the couloir the sun was back out and shining!
From here it was a few hundred more feet to the summit
After a quick break and a couple of summit shots we strapped our splitboards together and began our descent
After a great day of shred we headed back to the car and over to the pub in Breck for a few brewskis! Watch the movie here...
