Grizzly Couloir, Grizzly Peak D.
I hadn't heard of this line before Mike mentioned it to me. He didn't have to say much and I was down. So we head out to the Bakerville exit to approach the line directly, rather than from Loveland Pass. If we had chosen that route we would have had to negotiate the giant cornice guarding the entrance. We chose to rather just boot up and assess the snowpack. Not to say that the cornice breaking above us wasn't always in the back of our minds. Anyways, we followed the road most of the way up and then eventually found ourselves at the base of the couloir. We dug a pit and found the conditions to be pretty prime and so we headed onward and upward!
Reaching the top of the couloir we didnt want to stay long with that cornice looming above us. We were here to ski, not to summit, and so I strapped the split together and Mike was first to drop. The upper section was a firm getting into the choke and then from then on down it was blower! What great conditions in this awesome line. Check out the video here...
