SE Face, Grand Traverse Peak
(13,041ft)
|
What seemed like forever we eventually made our way above treeline and into the Deluge cirque. A beautiful and sunny day and despite being tired we pushed on. Up the face direct we hit the ridge not too far below summit for a final push to this beautiful peaks summit.
The headwall was the steepest part of the climb at around 45 degrees. After setting a few steps and sliding on old snow surface I actually had to put my crampons on for the last 100ft or so of the climb. Zack made due in his ski boots and we exhaustedly found ourselves at 13k with a 360 degree view of stunning!
We soaked in the views, ate a quick snack, snapped some summit shots and were on our way. 2k feet of creamy goodness awaits...
Surprisingly fantastic snow and a quick 2 hour ski back to the truck, exhausted, and ready for a beer! Great day in the hills with ya Zack!
