Big Bad Wolf Couloir, Red Peak
Group/Date: Greg Hansen, Mike Meru, Tanner Crow on 3.31.15 A beautiful day in the making as clear skies and plans to summit ski a backyard beauty were in the mix. Fellow OZ Snowboards team riders Mike Meru and Tanner Crow where in town for a few days and so of course Greg and I had to show them the backyard. Mike showed up at about 430am from driving straight from Idaho on zero sleep and in beast mode fashion had no doubt in joining in on the tour. We dropped a car at the Willowbrook TH and headed up to Meadow Creek and where on trail by about 6am or so. The sun rose and with clear skies above us we found ourselves on Eccles Pass in about 2 hours. From here the wind would blast us pretty much the rest of the tour up to the summit but with beautiful views one couldn't complain. After all, wind is a pretty common thing in the high country in Colorado. |
Once on the pass we had a quick snack and then skied down into the basin where we gained Red-Buff pass and ascended the ridge up to the summit of Red Peak. The winds couldn't blow the smiles off of these faces.
