Blue John Canyon, "Ralston Route"
3A III , 8-10 hours
Blue John was the first technical canyon that I had ever done. This canyon opened up my eyes to the canyoneering world and ever since I have never looked back. Canyoneering is my type of climbing. It has more of an exploratory feel to it, and with it not being too popular of a sport you will very rarely ever run into other people and all the routes rarely have trails to them. We chose to descend the "ralston route" which it is now popular from the erin ralston epic that went down here. Crazy story if you have never heard of it look it up!! You can descend this canyon without any gear but if you do decide to go through the lower slot then you will need a 70m rope for the 70 free hang abseil out! After the rap you are graced with hiking out through horseshoe canyon for another 5 miles or so and cross by some beautiful petroglyphs. One of them being the famed " great gallery" |
