Silver Couloir, Buffalo Mountain
|
Buffalo Mountain is pretty much the first peak you see when coming down on I-70 from the Eisenhower tunnel. It is right in my backyard and is just the first of many peaks of the beautiful Gore Range. Silver Couloir is the main North chute you see dropping from the summit. It is a fairly popular line due to the easy access and the "aestheticness". Having since previously ridden Elvis' Crotch with Mike Bannister I wanted to get back and ride the Silver proper. So I met up with my buddy Eric Harvey and we drove up to the Ryan Gulch TH and were off. Also, I had just picked up some new boots that I wanted to try out on the couloir before we did our 10day trip in Idaho, so that was just a bonus. And a bit sidetracked, but the LaSportiva Spantiks are a GREAT backcountry splitboarding boot! We skinned up the avy path and all the way over to the top of Silver and dropped in. This is a great line, especially with it being in my backyard! The conditions were variable but I just chalked it off as "training". I would love to hit this in blower conditions. I didn't get many pics but this is what I got.... |
